Hey, after seeing yet ANOTHER TV commercial that used "Rock the Casbah," I'm wondering ... who owns the Clash catalog these days? I mean, "Rock the Casbah" has been used to promote everything from an Atlantic City casino to Chevrolets to cell phones. The most recent cell phone commercial goes so far as to say 'Hey, don't worry about the stupid lyrics ... we're just moving units, bitch!" (OK, admittedly, my paraphrase). What's next? Amtrak can use "Train in Vain," "London Calling" could make a happy little jingle to goose England's summer 2007 tourist season, VW can schill it's stupid is-it-a-car?-is-it-a-guitar-amplifier? gimmickmobile to "Car Jamming," 7-Up can finally dethrone Sprite with its "Magnificent Seven" campaign ... gawd knows which songs can best represent MaxiPads and Roth IRA accounts and Viagra, but ... you get the point. Who's got the song rights? Who's getting rich off of this?
